Dr. Muhammad Mujtaba Abdulkadir

Dr. Muhammad Mujtaba Abdulkadir is a distinguished scholar, educator, and community leader from Bauchi, Nigeria. Born in the Jahun area of Bauchi, he hails from the esteemed Galadima family, part of the renowned Fulanin Jahun lineage. From a young age, he was immersed in Qur’anic knowledge and Islamic sciences, having been mentored extensively by his late father, Shaykh Abdulƙadir bin Musa. His early education laid a solid foundation in classical Islamic studies, Arabic language, and jurisprudence, following the traditional Zaure system of learning.

Dr. Mujtaba’s academic journey is marked by notable achievements. He holds a PhD in Islamic Studies, specializing in Nigerian Islamic History and scholarship, from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies, with a focus on Contemporary Islamic Jurisprudence, from the University of Jos. His education also includes degrees and certifications in Arabic, Islamic Studies, Hausa, Education, Shari’ah Law, and Computer Science, reflecting his diverse interests and dedication to lifelong learning.

Professionally, Dr. Mujtaba has contributed significantly to the field of education. He began his career with the Bauchi State Ministry of Education and has taught at prominent Islamic schools. Currently, he serves as a Principal Lecturer and Deputy Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at A.D. Rufa’i College of Education, Legal and General Studies, Misau, where he mentors undergraduate students.

His community service is equally commendable. Dr. Mujtaba oversees a modernized Tsangaya school and a Zawiyah, institutions he inherited from his father, alongside managing Zinnuryn Academy, a formal educational institution offering kindergarten to secondary education. Through these efforts, he is deeply involved in advancing traditional and formal education in his community.

Dr. Mujtaba is also a prolific writer and researcher, with publications in Arabic, English, and Hausa. His works include books, academic journals, and papers addressing critical issues like Almajiri reform and Islamic heritage preservation. His expertise has been sought in national discussions, and he has authored papers for the Nigerian House of Representatives on educational reforms.

In addition to his academic and professional endeavors, Dr. Mujtaba serves as Deputy Imam of his father’s mosque and as a consultant on Islamic heritage preservation. He holds Ijazah Ilmiyyah (scientific licenses) from prominent scholars with chains of transmission back to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), underscoring his depth of knowledge and commitment to traditional Islamic scholarship.

He plays active roles in various organizations, serving as Chairman of Zinnuryn Academy, Secretary-General of the Shaykh Abdulkadir Musa Jahun Islamic Foundation, and holding leadership positions in several other Islamic and educational initiatives.

With numerous awards recognizing his contributions to education, scholarship, and community service, Dr. Muhammad Mujtaba Abdulkadir remains dedicated to empowering others through education, preserving Islamic heritage, and fostering societal development.
